Chefs in Training: Year 1 Pupils Learn by Doing at BlossomHall School
At BlossomHall School, learning goes beyond textbooks. Yesterday, our Year 1 pupils became little chefs as they took part in an exciting sandwich-making activity designed to strengthen their listening and instruction-following skills.
It was a delicious lesson in learning by doing!
Why Following Instructions Is Important
Following instructions is an essential life skill. It helps children:
Develop strong listening skills
Improve concentration
Build confidence
Complete tasks independently
Strengthen problem-solving abilities
Our Year 1 pupils have been learning why careful listening matters — and this practical activity gave them the perfect opportunity to put their skills into action.
From “Spread” to “Stack”
Armed with their ingredients and bright smiles, our pupils carefully followed each step:
🥪 Spreading butter evenly
🥬 Adding fillings neatly
🍞 Stacking ingredients in the right order
Every instruction was followed attentively and enthusiastically. The result? Perfectly crafted sandwiches and proud young learners.
And of course, the best part was enjoying the tasty results of their hard work!
Learning Through Practical Activities
Hands-on experiences like this reinforce classroom lessons in meaningful ways. By combining fun with structure, pupils understand that learning can be both engaging and practical.
At BlossomHall School, we integrate life skills education into everyday learning experiences to ensure our pupils grow into capable and confident individuals.
Moments like these reflect our commitment to nurturing well-rounded learners through engaging and purposeful activities.
At BlossomHall School, we believe education should be interactive, memorable, and joyful — because the best lessons are often the ones children can taste, touch, and experience.
“When children learn by doing, they build confidence, independence, and skills that last far beyond the classroom.”
